4-(4-硝基苯偶氮)-1-萘酚可用于合成偶氮苯聚合物,尤其是甲基丙烯酸甲酯类偶氮聚合物。
当偶氮苯聚合物中含有柔性分子链(如,烷基链),偶氮苯分子通过共价键作用连接到分子链中,偶氮苯分子可以表现出液晶性质。用适当波长的光照射偶氮聚合物时,这类柔性材料会表现出光控性能,如光诱导取向,光化学转变以及光诱导的分子协同运动。
